Synopsis:

Dragons exist. They’re ferocious. And, in this novel from C. J. Hill, they’re smart: before they were killed off by slayer-knights, they rendered a select group of eggs dormant so their offspring would survive. Only a handful of people know about this, let alone believe it—these “Slayers” are descended from the original knights and are now a diverse group of teens that includes Tori, a smart but spoiled senator’s daughter who didn’t sign up to save the world.

The dragon eggs have fallen into the wrong hands. The Slayers must work together to stop the eggs from hatching. They will fight; they will fall in love. But will they survive?

My rating: ★★★★★

Tori has always been fascinated with dragons, so she is ecstatic when her parents finally let her go to this dragon camp, but boy does she not know what she’s getting herself into! Turns out, amid the normal dragon-enthusiast campers, there are a handful of super special, elite campers that do more than the normal camp stuff... They’re Dragon Slayers!! And guess what, Tori just happens to be one of them! Tori must train hard to help the others protect the country from dragons that will inevitably attack. But Tori has many doubts: are the others crazy? Are dragons really, well, real? Does she even have powers? Should she just forget everything and go home? All these questions float around in her mind (and then some), but will she be able to pull herself together in time the help the others when the time comes?

I cannot tell you how cool this book was! I have loved all of this authors other books (as Janette Rallison) and I knew I had to read this book under a pen name as well! And it did not disappoint one bit! The thing I loved most about this was the genius incorporation of dragons and their mythology! I thought it was just SO interesting how the dragons, dragon slayers, and dragon lords were all connected. So, so awesome! I cannot get over how amazing the mythology was!

I really liked Tori in that even though she is super rich thanks to her Senator dad, she is not snobby at all! Yeah, she does seem to care quite a bit of her appearance (but then again, aren’t most girls? *points to self* a little guilty), but she is actually really nice and kind and SANE! She had a hard time believing this whole dragons and dragon slayers thing. I totally sympathize with her, because had I been approached with this craziness, I would’ve booked it, yelling behind me, “Haha! NOPE!”

nope

One thing I have to mention about this book, though, was that I had a hard time in the beginning with all the characters being introduced seemingly at once! Argh! I could not keep these darn dragon slayers straight!

Also, I was not a big fan of the sorta-kind-of-but-not-really love triangle going on… not a fan of those =/ But I am Team Jesse, though ;) Oh! And then the traitor... Oh my gods! I totally figured out who it was and what they really were sort of early on. I so totally hated them, but then at the end... gods, I don’t really know where I stand... I wonder what will happen...

And the person I really, really, REALLY want to meet already is Ryker! Holy crap! I don’t know what it is about him that has me so intrigued, especially after we got a little sneak peek at him in the last chapter of the book. He just seems like an awesome guy! Give me Ryker already!! Lol. Oh and Bess, I loved her! SO funny!

Slayers was super action-y and super fun with its crazy-good dragon/slayer fights, and also had amazing dragon mythology and awesome powers! Such a great read that I cannot wait to read the sequel!
